Graffiti Robot polarsomething

(2022 - 2025)

This open wallhanging drawing machine is using spray cans, markers and 3D printer hardware to draw typography and patterns on walls. Polarsomething is a polar graph drawing machine and uses two-center bipolar coordinates for drawing bezier shape graffiti. Unlike traditional graffiti, variation is achieved through code and hardware and can be reproduced endlessly.

The machine is inspired by Hektor the portable spray paint output device but inverts the mechanics. Instead of mounting the motors and electronics on the upper edges of the canvas, the trolley contains all components including the can / marker. Installation only needs two nails for the fishing rods and power via cable or battery.

To reproduce the machine, only off-the-shelf components are used: A Marlin-based controller board, two NEMA stepper motors, one servo and some 3D printed parts.
